Miss Universe Philippines 2021

Miss Universe Philippines 2021

Each country has their own trademark events that each citizen conscientiously support and follow every year. It’s like an annual tradition that many people are eagerly waiting for to take place and ardently keep track of.

If other nations support traditional sporting events, such as the Super Bowl and the World Cup, the most important competition in the eyes of Filipinos is the beauty pageant. Filipinos love pageantry despite its waning popularity in almost every other country. When it comes to bringing home honors, The Philippines is becoming as good as a nation can go; just look at all the awards The Philippines' “beauty queens” have received!

The Philippines has maintained a phenomenal record in pageant participation by always appearing in the Top 10 rankings or better. In our country, there are Big Four international pageants namely, Miss Earth, Miss International, Miss World, and Miss Universe Philippines. The most prestigious of this Big Four is the Miss Universe pageant. Filipinos all around the globe look forward to watching the Miss Universe Philippines every year because of the over-the-top beauty, splendid talent, and brilliant minds of the participants.

Since 2010, the Philippines has consistently become part of the Top 5 of the Miss Universe Pageant. Filipinos were beyond pleased that Venus Raj (2010), Shamcey Supsup (2011), Janine Tugonon (2012), and Arielle Arida (2013) were able to reach it to the final round as runners up each time. That’s why millions of Filipinos were ecstatic as the nation claimed the Miss Universe title in 2015, through the iconic win of Pia Wurtzbach.

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization

To ensure the selection of an exceptionally beautiful, talented, and smart Filipina who would represent the country, Miss Universe Philippines puts up an annual beauty pageant where the top candidates from a talent search are chosen to represent the country in the Miss Universe Pageant.

Binibining Pilipinas has owned the Miss Universe franchise in the Philippines since 1964. Since then until 2019, the national pageant had selected the ladies who represent the country in the Miss Universe competition every year. During the time when the organization still named as Binibining Pilipinas, contestants have were being crowned with the Binibining Pilipinas title from 1964 to 1971 and Binibining Pilipinas Universe from 1974 to 2011. The franchise and the title was then renamed Miss Universe Philippines in 2012, wherein Janine Tugonon became the first winner to receive the Miss Universe Philippines title during the coronation night.

In 2019, after half a century, Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc or BCPI, under the management of Stella Araneta, who directed the Miss Universe Philippines pageant since 1964, was not already a part of the Miss Universe franchise. Currently, the Miss Universe Organization has a partnership with the Miss Universe Philippines Organization or MUPh.

There is also a new set of officers for MUPh which is manage by Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup-Lee as the National Director, Aces and Queens founder and Empire PH head Jonas Gaffud as the Creative Director, Lia Andrea Ramos as the Head of Women Empowerment and Charity, Nad Bronce as the lawyer and Head of Legal Affairs, fashion designer Albert Andrada as the Design Council Head, and Mario Garcia as the Head of Business Development and Marketing.
