Iloilo City Government Sets New and Rationalized Routes

Are you traveling or visiting Iloilo City soon? Then it will be extremely helpful to become fully aware of the new and rationalized routes that are being implemented now in the city proper!

With approval from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), this southern city has 24 new and rationalized lines in its Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPRTP). The LPTRP began its implementation on June 12th, and these routes were also opened on the same date along with Iloilo City's modernized public transport system.

According to the local government, they launched this series of new activities in order to commemorate the 124th anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day in the city.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board New and Rationalized Routes

The Regulatory Ordinance No. 2022-027 was implemented in the City of Iloilo last June 12, 2022. This is an ordinance adopting and approving the LPTRP of Iloilo City that provides policies and guidelines for its implementation and other purposes.

Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) Joint Monitoring Team

Head of the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), Jeck Conlu, said that the LPTRP would be monitored by a combined team of local government entities under the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC), as well as support desks at terminals to assist travelers in the highly urbanized city.

In addition to the new and rationalized routes, a total of 77 of the 1,767 renovated or modernized jeepneys certified by the LTFRB also began their services last June 12 on these 24 routes, 17 of which have been rationalized while seven have been newly launched, according to the LPTRP.

Traditional jeepneys and provincial jeepneys, on the other hand, are still permitted to operate since the planned modernized units have not yet arrived.

According to LTFRB regional director Richard Osmeña, they are all happy that Iloilo City is the first major metropolitan center and local government in the country to implement this ambitious initiative. He also said that even in the midst of the pandemic, they were able to step up to the plate to meet the challenge of fresh starts.
