The Taal Volcano erupted in 1754, destroying the old location on the shores of Taal Lake. Beginning in 1732, the Church was rebuilt in its current location. A picture of San Sebastian is said to have been discovered on a lipa tree after it was taken out of the Church, and the town was named after it.

Roughly hewn, the rectangular stone is used to build San Sebastian Cathedral, which includes a six-story octagonal bell tower that stands on a rectangular foundation and progressively tapers to the top cupola.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church

One year after World War II decimated Lipa, the Church was established on May 31, 1946. Due to their relocation from Manila to Lipa on the feast of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces, the Carmelite sisters adopted this icon as their patron saint. Several miraculous occurrences have been recorded in the intervening period. 

Meanwhile, the rose petals have become a household name among Batanguenos and probably even the majority of Filipinos since they fell on this Church many years ago.
