Aklan is the Philippines' oldest province as it was founded in the early 13th century. Outdoor adventures abound in this picturesque wonderland with waterfalls, fluffy white sand beaches, and a mangrove forest. Meanwhile, there are cultural riches to be discovered within its towns.
Since Aklan is near the sea, the province's specialty is mostly seafood dishes like inihaw (grilled seafood), ginamos (salted shrimp paste or fish), and inumoe and inigpit (broiled tuna that are pressed hard between sticks of bamboo).
Talking about the different seafood that can be found in the region, let's check out the various travel attractions that both local and foreign visitors must not miss visiting on their next tour in the Province of Aklan.
Places to Visit in Altavas
There are 24,398 inhabitants in the town of ALTAVAS, which is located in the easternmost section of the region. It also serves as a gateway to the Province of Aklan if you will be coming from the provinces of Capiz and Iloilo. As part of Batan, it was also part of the Municipality of New Washington, formerly called Lagatic, which had control over it as well.
At the heart of the Municipality of Altavas are 14 barangays, which include Poblacion, Catmon, Dalipdip, Ginictan, Linaysan, Lumaynay, Lumaynay Lupo Man-up Odiong Quinasay-an and Talon There is a one-hour drive from Kalibo to the Poblacion, which is the provincial capital.
Visiting Altavas can give you an opportunity to go to the various tourist attractions in the Province of Aklan, such as:
Altavas Church
The Holy Child Parish Church, also known as the Altavas Church, is one of the most popular churches in this region and one of the top-rated places also listed in Aklan.
Altavas Town Hall
The Altavas beauticians are at work at the town hall in Altavas. Being considered as the popular sight of the locals, the plaza, can also be viewed in its surrounding area.
Quinasay-an Falls
Brgy. Talon is home to the Quinasay-an Falls in Altavas, a waterfall that can be found in the area. A rushing waterfall may be seen in the midst of a long trek in front of the waterfall.
Mount Pulilan
This mountain can be easily seen when you visit Altavas. Enjoy the fresh air and peaceful mountain view in the Municipality of Altavas on your next visit to Aklan.
Kipot Cave
Visit Brgy. Talon's Kipot Cave if you're looking for a challenge and some spirit of adventure. It's only a short drive from the main highway and is accessible by any car or vehicle. The cave came from the Tagalog word "Kipot" which means narrow in English, so make sure to prepare yourself for entering a tricky trail going to this cave.
Altavas Plaza
One of the main tourist attraction in the Altavas Plaza is the statue of Senator Jose Cortes Altavas that was blessed, unveiled, and formerly launched on September 11, 2017, in the town plaza. Senator Altavas is the first Aklanon Senator to the First Philippine Senate of 1916.
Jose Cortes Altavas, a senator, representing the 7th district of the Philippines during the 4th Philippine Congress from 1916 to 1919, supported the secession of the former Municipality of Jimeno from the Municipality of New Washington, which was previously known as Lagatic. He is a staunch supporter of a unified Capiz, and he feels that Altavas town is the missing link that would finally put an end to the Akeanons' separatist inclinations.
Ati-Atihan
Ati-Atihan is considered the "Mother of all Philippine Festivals". During the month of January, Filipinos all around the globe celebrate the Ati-atihan Festival, which is centered on the Santo Niño, or Child Jesus.
In the year 2017, the F300 and EverFest recognized the Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-atihan Festival as one of the world's top 300 festivals. This street party in Kalibo has also been voted one of the world's top by other travel websites. A new period of bright celebration began in 2016 when the Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-atihan Festival Inc. lit up the rival tribes with neon lights to ring in the new era.
Boracay
This is known as the "Island Paradise," not just for the locals but also for the foreigners who keep on coming back to this pristine and amazingly beautiful beach resort. In fact, Boracay Island received a lot of international awards for being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
It was awarded as the "Best Island in the World" in 2012 by the International Travel Magazine. In 2014, it became one of the top islands in the world. Meanwhile, in 2016 it also ranked as the first tourist attraction in a magazine article featuring the Top 10 Destination to Watch.
