Tara! Let's Experience La Union!

2 May 2020

Watch Cristine of Lumina Business Development Group as she talks about the Surfing Capital of North Luzon — from activities you should try, to Lumina Homes' flagship project in La Union, Lumina San Juan.

The Province of La Union, specifically San Juan, is well-known by both local and foreign tourists as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines in the northern part of Luzon. You can also enjoy various leisure and recreational activities in this province, like grape-picking activities and other kinds of water adventures.

Top 7 Activities To Do in La Union

1. Grape Picking Activity

While La Union is well-known as a surfing hotspot and a historical landmark, it's also known as the "fruit basket of the north." The province also provides grape harvesting at Bauang, a local secret that has just been disclosed. When planning your vacation, be sure to include a stop at a vineyard to select your fresh grapes. La Union has six more grape farms that you can visit in Bauang, such as the Lomboy Grape Farm, Gapuz Grape Farm, Calica Grape Farm, Manguerra Grape Farm, Orpilla-Obando Grape Farm, and Orpilla-Estigoy Grape Farm.

Founded by Avelino Lomboy, known as the "Grape King of the North," Lomboy Grape Farm is the first vineyard in the region and feeds the nation with fresh-grown grapes from the province. From the city center, take a bus towards Agoo and get out at Bauang's barrio Urayong. All vineyards allow customers to pick and pay for their grapes at the farm gate. The ideal time to visit the site is during the summer or harvest season when tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Tangadan Falls

Tangadan Falls, one of at least ten waterfalls in San Gabriel, is a popular tourist destination. It can be found in the interior of the province, near the Cordillera Mountains. It is a two-tier cascade along the Baroro River.

Topping out at roughly 50 feet in height and spanning more than 100 feet in width, Tangadan Falls' bottom cascade is its most recognizable feature. There is a lower drop but a more extensive and deeper pool on the higher level, perfect for cliff jumping. Further upstream, at least another hour of hiking is required to reach Kapandagan Falls, a lesser-known but no less stunning cascade. It's a short drive from San Juan to Tangadan Falls in San Gabriel, a tiny hamlet with about 2,000 people. If you want to visit here, you should prepare a very affordable P30 per person for admission.

3. Urbiztondo Beach

Urbiztondo Beach in La Union is a popular tourist destination because of its Instagrammable eateries and San Juan La Union beach resorts. It's also ideal for surfing, and there are several schools nearby for those who are just getting started.

Surfers may be seen at Urbiztondo Beach at any time of day or night. Visit during the South Swell season, which runs from July to October, or the North Swell season, which runs from November to March, as the waves are its best during these months.

4. Ma-Cho Temple

Are you trying to find anything out of the ordinary around the province? Even for a short time, you may find a spot to concentrate and commit yourself to your religion in La Union. Ma Cho Temple, the country's earliest Taoist temple and one of the most significant outside of China, should be on your itinerary. Located on a hill overlooking the South China Sea in downtown San Fernando, it's ideal for the "Goddess of the Sea" and "Queen of Heaven" legends. Located on land more prominent than an acre, it is seven stories tall and sits at an altitude of around 70 feet above sea level.

5. Bahay na Bato

La Union's "Bahay na Bato" is a beachfront home built entirely from pebbles and stones discovered on the city's streets and beaches. Because stone-picking is the city's most well-known and successful business, it is known as the "Pebble Capital of the North" by locals. There are also interiors and a hidden refuge under this Korean-built structure, including painted pebbles, wooden sculptures, and a stone foundation designed by Bong Kim, a Korean.

As soon as you step foot in Luna, you'll be able to enjoy a breathtaking view of Luna's coastline, which is littered with various types of stones. The backyards of the homes are adorned with stone sculptures placed in a symmetrical pattern. The house walls are decorated with corals, and rocks are laid out on the flooring without any cement. It's one of the most fantastic locations to unwind because of its modern decor and refreshing style.

6. Pebble Beach

Luna's coastline is mainly covered with Pebble Beach. It is, in fact, a beautiful sight, a welcome change from the typical white sand beach scene. It's possible to question why the beach is covered with stones of varying sizes and hues. It is one of the favorite places to unwind by tourists because of its therapeutic effects. You can feel the stones' texture and form by walking barefoot on it and feel relaxed as the stones rub against your soles.
