Pangasinan is a popular tourist destination for those looking to visit islands and beaches, waterfalls, and sample delectable native food, all within a 3-hour drive of Manila. Pangasinan means "land of salt" as it is one of the biggest salt producers in the country. Considered as the third biggest province in the Philippines, the Province of Pangasinan is well-known for its wonderful salt texture.

Top 3 Food to Eat in Pangasinan

Want to know the different local delicacies you can enjoy in Pangasinan? Well, here are some of them:

1. Tupig

Rice and coconut strips wrapped in banana leaves and grilled over charcoal are the main ingredients of Pangasinan's famed local dish, Intemtem (also known as Tupig). During the old days, this rice cake was only commonly reserved for special occasions like Christmas and New Year's Day, Like given as a sweet treat to carolers during the holidays, similar to the trick or treats in the West.

This became commercially successful in the 1960s, and the rest is history. New flavors, including jackfruit, pandan, strawberry, purple yam or ube, and guava, to mention a few, are now available everywhere from the streets to fresh markets and specialty stores.

2. Puto Calasiao

A form of rice cake known in the Philippines as "Puto Calasiao" is produced from semi-glutinous rice that has been fermented in clay jars. Calasiao, Pangasinan, is the "white gold" of the area because the town relies on these rice cakes as a major source of revenue. Despite this, the town's streets are crammed with merchants selling this delicious delight, as well as a variety of other rice cake varieties.

3. Seafood

Aside from their native delicacies, Pangasinan is also famous and tourists because of its fresh seafood products. From oysters, shrimps, crabs, squid, seaweed, tilapia, shrimp, and of course, their Dagupan Bangus. Some restaurants even serve exotic food if you want to be a bit adventurous in your gastronomic experience.

Travel attractions

After satisfying your appetite from their yummy cuisines and delicacies, it's now time to explore the Province of Pangasinan!

Hundred Islands

Alaminos Pangasinan's "Kapulo-puloan or Taytay-Bakes," most commonly known as The Hundred Islands National Park, features more than 100 islands, 124 at low tide and 123 at high tide in particular, for you to explore. Nature lovers can find it easy to relax on its gorgeous beaches while admiring the breathtaking scenery. It has a wide range of leisure options, from swimming and hiking to sightseeing and awe-inspiring views.

A world-famous tourist destination thanks to its gorgeous blue-green seas, plenty of inland and underwater biodiversity and fauna, cream-colored fine sandy beaches, and friendly local islanders, you can have everything there in the Lingayen Gulf.

Also, the pleasant year-round climate of Pangasinan province makes it an excellent destination for a holiday. However, Pangasinan Island receives typhoons and monsoon rains from June to October, therefore avoid visiting the 100 Islands Pangasinan during this time.

Manaoag Church

It is one of the most-visited churches in northern Luzon. It is sometimes referred to as the North's Pilgrimage Center. Mass, the Rosary, flowers, and candles are offered and lit by tens of thousands of pilgrims every weekend in this town. The Lady of the Holy Rosary, or Apa Baket, serves as the focal point of devotion.

In folklore, the Blessed Mother appeared to a middle-aged farmer and told him where she wanted her church to be built on a low tree, bathed in light from above. Manaoag is renowned primarily as a destination for religious pilgrims. There is a centuries-old ivory statue of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaog Shrine on the Church's high altar, which is claimed to have miraculous powers. Between the Lenten and Easter seasons, pilgrimages peak during May and October, when the Holy Rosary is celebrated.

Road Infrastructure

Tourists and local travelers can now quickly go to Pangasinan, bypassing one of the famous expressways in the north.

Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx)

The Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) has four lanes. The 88.5-kilometer highway will begin in Tarlac City's southern terminal and conclude at Rosario in La Union's northern terminal. The 700-meter-long new road connects the SCTEX with the TPLEX. Through this, the travel time between Tarlac and Rosales is reduced to one hour by the new road. Also, the NLEX and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway or SCTEx are linked to it.
