Where to go in Bataan this 2022?
18 January 2022Let’s explore the beauty of the Province of Bataan together with the Marketing Department of Lumina Bataan. But before we awed with the province’s charm, let’s travel back first to its history to know more about the province.
History of Bataan
Bataan became the symbol of democracy and freedom in our country. This place commemorates the gallantry of the Filipinos and Americans who defend the Philippines from the brutal force of invaders. It was founded in 1754 by Gov. Gen. Pedro Manuel Arandia. During that time, the region was still divided into two parts: the Corregimiento of Mariveles and the Province of Pampanga.
The Corregimineto of Mariveles was made up of the towns of Mariveles, Bagac, Morong, and Maragondon Cavite. These towns are under the jurisdiction of the Recollect Order of the Roman Catholic Church.
Meanwhile, the Province of Pampanga was comprised of the towns of Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Abucay, Samal, Orani, Llana Hermosa, and San Juan Dinalupihan. This group of towns is under the Dominican Order.
The Dominicans founded Abucay on June 10, 1588. Samal on April 30, 1641, Orion on April 30, 1667, Orani and Balanga on April 21, 1714, Llana Hermosa on May 8, 1756, and Pilar on March 10, 1901.
On the other hand, the three towns on the western side of the region that comprises Mariveles, Bagac, and Morong were all founded around 1578 by the Franciscans.
Today, commemorative shrines are built in the areas of the Province of Bataan to honor the bravery of our heroes who fought the cruel Japanese occupation. One of these shrines is the famous Dambana ng Kagitingan at the top of Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan.
Right now, the province is on the verge of being an extensive industrialization hub and a tourist’s haven—equivalent to the dynamic force that somehow exuded its historical past.
