Toll Fees Philippines: 2022 Guide for your Next Road Trip

13 May 2022
Toll Fees Philippines

Beginning on May 12, 2022, motorists utilizing the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) would be subject to higher tolls.

Toll Regulatory Board toll fee adjustments

For the CAVITEX R-1 Expressway, the Toll Regulatory Board or TRB authorized the applications of CIC and PRA for tariff adjustments in 2011 and 2014, as well as their additional petition for Phases 1 and 2 improvement works completed in 2020.

On the other hand, TRB authorized periodic adjustments due in 2016 and the construction of the new Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX) in 2021 in the case of NLEX, resulting in the tariff hikes. The SFEX comprises 16.4 extra lane kilometers, two new bridges in Jadjad and Argonaut, and a new tunnel, all of which opened in February 2021, when the project was entirely finished.

Vehicle Classifications for Tollways

Based on the kind of vehicle, drivers are charged a price for entering the tollway. Currently, there are seven (7) main expressways that bypass cities and highways to link Metro Manila to several regions, saving motorists a great deal of time.

Let's take a look first at the different tollway vehicle classifications:

Class 1 Vehicles

Class 1 vehicles are those with two axles and a maximum height of 7.5 ft. These include cars, vans, pickup trucks, and motorbikes. A bus or RV driver doesn't fall into this category. Only someone who drives a smaller vehicle like a car can be classified as a Class 1 Vehicle.

Class 2 Vehicles

Two-axle trucks having a height of more than or equal to 7.5 feet are classified as Class 2 vehicles. Classified vehicles such as buses and trucks are included in this category. If you possess a Class 1 vehicle but want to attach a trailer to it, then you'll be classified as a Class 2 driver.

Class 3 Vehicles

For huge vehicles with at least six wheels and a height of at least 7.5 feet, then this classification is for you. There is no need for you to worry about this class unless you work as a courier or transporter.

Updated Toll Rates in PH

Every Filipino driver has to contend with traffic on a daily basis. That's why tollways exist, as well as other traffic calming measures. However, to utilize and pass through tollways, you must pay the rates and toll costs, which are not exactly inexpensive.

North Luzon Expressway NLEX- Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway SCTEX Toll Fees

In the Philippines, the NLEX serves as one of the country's most important transportation routes. Pampanga and Bulacan are just some of the provinces it links Metro Manila with in central Luzon. Averaging 160,000 automobiles per day, the NLEX is one of the busiest highways in the country.

Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) connects NLEX to Subic, Clark, and Tarlac, extending its service area. SCTEX is the Philippines' longest expressway, measuring 93.77 kilometers in length.

NLEX Toll increase

Starting May 12, 2022, NLEX Corporation's appeal to raise NLEX toll charges by Php 2 per kilometer in the open system and Php 0.34 per kilometer in the closed system was granted by the TRB.

The open system covers the area of Balintawak, Caloocan City to Marilao, Bulacan while the closed system includes the area between Bocaue, Bulacan and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga including Subic-Tipo.

For Class 1 vehicles including ordinary cars and SUVs, drivers will have to pay an extra Php 2, Php 6 for Class 2 vehicles that include buses and compact trucks, and Php 8 for Class 3 vehicles under the new NLEX toll price structure.

On the NLEX between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City, the end-to-end additional fare is Php 27 for Class 1, Php 69 for Class 2, and Php 82 for Class 3 vehicles.

CAVITEX Toll fees

If you're looking for the shortest route from Manila to Cavite, this is it! The Coastal Road, also known as the Manila-Cavite Expressway, is the solution. It begins at Roxas Boulevard's southern terminal and travels north along the North Coast until Kawit, Cavite, where it separates into two terminals.

CAVITEX Toll increase

On May 12, the TRB approved the add on toll petition of operator Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) and the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) for an increase in tolls of Php 4.62 for Class 1 vehicles, Php 9.24 for Class 2, and Php 13.86 for Class 3 vehicles traversing the 6.48-kilometer R-1 Expressway from CAVITEX Longos, Bacoor entry to MIA exit and vice versa.

As a result of the revised toll rate matrix of CAVITEX Parañaque Toll Plaza (VAT-included), drivers in Class 1 vehicles will now pay Php 33 from the existing Php 25; in Class 2 vehicles, they will pay Php 67 from Php 50; and in Class 3 vehicles, they will pay Php 100 from the current Php 75.

Updated toll fees for popular destinations

Curious about the toll price for expressways that go to popular places such as Subic and Tagaytay? If you're driving a Class 1 car from Metro Manila, below are the toll prices for popular locations outside the metro:

For northern destinations

  • Angeles, Pampanga (NLEX-Balintawak to NLEX-Angeles) – Php 272

  • Lingayen, Alaminos, Bolinao, etc. (NLEX-Balintawak to TPLEX-Paniqui) – Php 475

  • Subic (NLEX-Balintawak to SCTEX-TIPO) – Php 530

  • La Union, Baguio, Laoag, etc. (NLEX- Balintawak to TPLEX-Pozorrubio) – Php 707

For southern destinations

  • Tagaytay (SLEX-Magallanes to SLEX-Sta. Rosa) – Php 175

  • Batangas (SLEX-Magallanes to SLEX-Calamba) – Php 214

Because many motorists have not yet become used to the RFID system, major tollways like the SLEX and NLEX still have open cash lanes. Even though registering for an Autosweep or Easytrip account is time-consuming, it is the only method to drive across all of the country's tollways.
