The Southbound Skyway Extension was completed and officially opened to motorists last Friday, December 10, 2021. Motorists will be able to avoid the traffic jams near the Alabang Viaduct thanks to a 3.60-kilometer road network expansion that stretches into Laguna, Bataan Province, and Quezon Province. This will be offering a much accessible way if you will be traversing the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway or MCX.

Skyway 3 and its future plans

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon Ang claimed that the Skyway 3 Project would be an economic game-changer since it would directly link Manila and the surrounding regions, therefore releasing its full potential. In Alabang, the South Luzon Expressway is connected to the North Luzon Expressway with seven lanes of traffic capacity. Up to this date, 15 Skyway entry and exit ramps have been put into the project so far.

Through this Skyway 3 project, the travel time between Buendia and NLEX decreases to only 15 minutes and between Alabang and NLEX to just 30 minutes, respectively. The 18-kilometer project also has 36 entry sites on each side from Susanna Heights to Alabang, allowing drivers to bypass the EDSA traffic jams. It is estimated that around 75,000 cars would be diverted from congested locations like EDSA and C-5 due to the project.

A bus rapid transit system, a connection to the New Manila International Airport or NMIA, and the expansion of Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME) are all part of future infrastructure plans for the Skyway 3 project. The bus rapid transit system that will be a part of its plans is a high-capacity point-to-point (P2P) bus system that aims to reduce commuting times from Muntinlupa's Susana Heights to Balintawak, where it connects to the North Luzon Expressway.

On top of all that, SMC also intends on constructing an 8-kilometer airport toll road that would link the North Luzon Expressway and Skyway 3 together and connect them with NMIA in Bulacan.
